MRS. KLINE'S MUSIC CLASSROOM
In Second Grade, we will learn new songs in various tonalities and meters and start to label them. Props such as scarves and bean bags help us to move our bodies as we sing and listen. Throughout the school year, your student will learn how to play musical instruments such as the tambourine, hand drum, glockenspiel, tubano and bongo drums, and eventually the xylophone and metallophone. In music class, your child will learn to sing with their class and as an individual.
We will also be preparing repertoire for school assemblies and programs. You will find links to these songs below. I strongly encourage students to practice at home and your support is much appreciated.

"March" from The Nutcracker
Our "Featured Composer" for the months of November and December is Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. He was born in Russia in the year 1840 and is one of the most famous Romantic composers. For more information about Tchaikovsky, click here.
In music class, we discussed rondo form (ABACABA) and created movements with paper plates to each section.
This activity is an important part of the music curriculum because it is a focus on musical analysis.

Winter Fantasy
Winter Fantasy is a fun song that adds to the original melody of Jingle Bells. Part One is new, so we have been focusing on the melody and new notes. When your child is practicing, encourage them to check that their voice is matching with the notes in the video. We have also been working to develop a singing voice with clear tone.
Part Two is Jingle Bells.

At the end, Part One and Part Two sing at the same time. If you'd like, ask your student to sing Part One while you sing Part Two (Jingle Bells) with the video. Have fun!
